Case Studies by Process:
Market Opportunity
Studies
- Fry conducted a study throughout the air
cargo industry and interviewed respondents representing all major organizations
related to the development of air cargo. The conclusion of the study was to define
the sizes that would evolve for van-size containers in air cargo and intermodal
applications.
- For a major manufacturer of heavy-duty motor oil and specialized
lubricants for the trucking industry,
Fry conducted a comprehensive study of on-highway
fleets to determine usage, market share, and specific problems and opportunities
for the use of heavy-duty motor oil and specialized lubricants in the industry.
By interviewing truckstops, truck fleets, owner operators, fleet operators,
and other appropriate respondents, we were able to determine specific market
shares for our client and its major competitors
as well as provide the basis for strategic
decisions to become more competitive in the industry.
-
Fry conducted a definitive study of the use of flares and
flaring systems for on-shore, off-shore, and chemical
process and refinery applications, first on a North American basis and
later worldwide.
We determined the decision process and projected usage for flares and flaring
systems throughout the petroleum industry on a global basis.
- Fry completed a study of the multi-media market in the southeastern
USA for a foreign government economic development
agency. The study assisted the foreign agency in quantifying the market
opportunity in the southeastern USA and with identifying
strategic partners in the area.
- Fry conducted competitive opportunity studies for a world
leader in specialized
machinery for trueing grinding wheels and slicing silicon wafers for
the semiconductor/computer industry.
The study entailed identifying strengths and weaknesses of our
client's competitors,
industry preferences regarding equipment features, and ways in which our
client could be more effective in developing business and serving unmet
customer needs.
- For an important foreign construction products
producer and marketer, Fry conducted a U.S. market opportunity study for fiber
cement. The study was designed to define the market, determine overall potential,
assess the competitive situation, analyze
user satisfaction, and identify any raw material
constraints.
To date, our client has not entered the U.S. market due to a
combination of study findings and changing internal strategic objectives.
