- Fry performed a
comprehensive study of sales and marketing effectiveness
in the chemical industry, comparing our client with its 28 major
competitors.
The client was a diversified chemicals and plastics producer, and many
of the competitors identified by one business unit might also be
customers of other parts of the client's business. Fry compared sales and
marketing effectiveness across a wide range of products and competitors
and established a ranking procedure for each of the competitors on each
of the variables considered.
- For a client in the
plastics industry, Fry examined the market opportunity
for plastic coatings products based on vinyl
formulations. Fry studied and clarified the structure of the plastics
industry, identified possible acquisition
candidates, described the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate,
and recommended that our client not enter this industry as a merchant
producer, as the nature of the industry and the strengths of our client were
not a good match.
- Fry has conducted a number of studies dealing with
the use of thermoplastic sheeting and film, and assessed the
competitive situationin this industry.
These studies also examined the use of elastomers in specialized
applications, mold release agents in a variety of applications,
and specialized abrasion-resistant coatings for
non-ferrous and plastic substrates. The nature of our work in these
studies placed heavy emphasis on the technical aspects of the products
involved and the opportunity
provided by the client's technology.
- For a major
manufacturer of heavy-duty motor oil and specialized lubricants for the
trucking industry, Fry conducted a comprehensive strategy study of
on-highway fleets to determine usage, market share, and specific
problems and opportunities
for the use of heavy-duty motor oil and
specialized lubricants in the industry. By interviewing truckstops,
truck fleets, owner operators, fleet operators, and other appropriate
respondents, we were able to determine specific market shares for our
client and its major competitors as well as
provide the basis forstrategic
decisions to become more competitive in
the industry.
- Fry conducted a definitive study
of the use of flares and flaring systems for on-shore,
off-shore, and chemical process and refinery applications, first on a
North American basis and later worldwide. Fry
determined the decision process and projected usage for flares and flaring systems
throughout the petroleum industry on a global basis.
